I, we, well, my wife, bought a 1999 Cadillac Catera, don't bash her too bad, in January. It had 90,000 miles.
A month ago, a dummy light came on and the transmission went into a limp type of mode, starting out in third gear from a stop. I took the vehicle to a recommended transmission shop for a rebuild. Got it back and a day later, back to where we began, with a leak and back into the limp mode. I'm not a transmission guru and want some imput on what issues might be associated with this tranny. I have a feeling that these guys don't have a clue.

I did have a few of these with the same problem, one was fixed with a new TPS, another had a shorted wire from the PCM, and one was where the alternator threw a spike and went high with 16 volts throwing it into limp mode. Just a few things to look at from my experience with the 4L30E trans.

And of course I wouldn't rule out shift solenoids. Just a few things to look at from my experience with the 4L30E trans.

Thanks for the reply. They said the a & b solenoids were "throwing codes" so they took them out and tested them. They worked fine and put it back in and then a code came up for the transmission control module. Ouch, 750 dollars. I'm drowning I've spent more in repairs than we bought the car!
