I have a Volvo 2002 XC70. Last week the check engine light came on with a 0030 O2 sensor code. The next day my cooling fan came on and apparently stayed on all night draining the battery totally. Any thoughts on the cause of this issue?

I recommend that you head over to Brickboard or IPD and ask the same question.

I had a 1998 V70 XC and this would happen to the car about every 4 months. Mechanics "fixed" it but it continued to happen and know one ever really figured out what was wrong before I sold it.
