what is most important? safety, performance, or reliability?
safest-saab
performer-audi (AWD)
reliability- save some $$ now and in the long run....go check out the japanese rivals....you'll get all the features you want from a camry, accord, altima, etc, at a lower price, AND  without the poor reliability of those euro cars....(electrical nightmares for decades)

I know what you're thinking....she wants a VW, or an AUDI, or maybe a SAAB!!!
Trust me dude, i'm living with one of those chicks, and if it weren't for my research and experience of a VW and a Volvo both constantly in the shop until we threw in the towel and said no mas!
In the end, the monthly cost of a new car is cheaper than the repair bills you will eventually face.....probably with the audi and saab....looks like for those prices, the owners are trying to get rid of their money pits quickly.....

ALSO....PREMIUM FUEL FOR AUDI AND SAAB.....AND MAYBE FOR THE JETTA, AND DO YOU REALLY THINK THE DIESEL WILL BE LESS EXPENSIVE? -Diesel is INSANELY high right now.

If we were in 1999, i'd say hell yeah, get that brand new TDI!...but now, you are gonna have to pay wayyyyyyyy to much for fuel......unless you plan on making mommy and baby go around town to collect kitchen grease for biodiesel?....yeah didn't think so....

Let's face it, all of the cars you listed are beautiful, well performing machines.
But those euro cars are infamous for electrical bugs, and premium fuel consumption.

Keep you and your wallet happy, and check out a camry, accord, or altima.....
If that doesn't suit mom, then go check out some infinitis like the g35 sedan(rear or awd)....they are every bit as much of a value as a bmw now days, only cost thousands less, and are way more reliable.

My girl is in love with bmw's and audi's as well(i am too), but i've got her trained now.... we will drive those when there's money to burn! acura, infiniti, lexus.....those are all made by their japanese parents: honda, nissan, toyota.....its gonna be your best value overall, just don't be swayed on what kind of car looks "cuter"....

I parted with my Volvo, and she did the same with her VW....both of tremendous sentimental value...and bought a 2006 toyota tacoma 4cylinder.-(best move ever!)

Be strong, put your foot down, and check out the real facts.... try edmunds.com   for any other reviews you might want to compare.

good luck!
