check out a nissan sentra....you can get a good deal on a low mileage one, and also you will save in the long run on fuel with a 4-cylinder...i don't like american cars either...always behind japan or europe in overall value. also check  cars.com and carmax.com

Carmax as recommended by Dave is a good site to find used cars. To get an idea of what the market has to offer and what car is best for you you can also try myproductadvisor.com.

For $4000, you're probably better off buying private party.  In my experience, you'll find more car for your money that way.  I'm assuming you live in Canada, and I don't think they have CarMax's up there, but I could be wrong.

I know here in the great state of Arizona, when you buy private party, you pay no sales tax.  If that is the case where you live, then private party is definitely a better way to go.  You'll avoid sales tax and any dealer fees.

FYI, most dealerships will not have a large selection of $4000 vehicles, because they take on a certain level of responsibility for every car they sell and quite frankly the profit margin is typically to small.  Not always the case though.

Let me know if I can help more.

Take care and beware,
