Toyota's 2009 redesign of the Prius will include solar panels on the roof. The power generated from the panels will run the car's air conditioning system. Toyota is the first car company to use solar technology. The solar cells will be made by Kyocera Corp. for the high-end versions of the hybrid car. This is pretty neat stuff! By the way, the prius has been around for almost ten years. At least one auto manufacturer out there thinks ahead!

The solar cells will do virtually nothing, unfortunately. perhaps power the radio in the overall scheme of things. the big news will be when they have the Lithium Ion batteries in the 2010 model. That will drastically change things.
