Hello everyone,
I have a 87 Ford ranger 2.9FI. I changed the old air filter and PCV Valve, shortly after changing these out the truck started to sputter and jerk my backwards with massive power loss.
At first the problem would come and go however it happens much more often now.
It seems that after driving the truck for a bit after it heats up the problem starts. You will suddenly feel a loss of power and the fuel will not seem to ignite. The truck will sputter jerking me back and forth until it eventualy stalls and sometimes dies.
After turning it off and waiting a bit it will often times work fine for a minute until the problem happens again. Sometimes its hard to get it above 25mph during this.
If I pump the gas pedal towards release it will feel like it will catch and jerk the car forward for a second.
I have changed the fuel filter, alternator, plugs, wires, air filter, pcv valve.
I am at a loss as to what could be causing this issue. I took it to a mechanic and he just threw on the new altenator. I am currently questioning the distributor or ignition coil.
Any help would be wonderful.
Christopher
oh after it stalls if I press the gas pedal I will hear a pulsing sound that is similar to a drum...
