I have an 03 F*&%lander, I sent all of my info to the atty & I've yet to hear back from him, this was 3 weeks ago! I advise all of you to go to the FTC web site voice your concerns on how unsafe this car is & that it should be taken of the highways, streets, etc. That is going to get us the help we need, seriously does someone have to die before they will recognize what a safety hazard this car is. I drove around for months without brake lights, they had recalled the recall on the brake switch. My back passenger window dropped & shattered with my 2yr old niece in her car seat right next to it. The cable to the motor that sits inside the door wrapped itself around it the motor & busted. That was $500 to replace. Not to mention $6500.00 to replace the engine with a rebuilt engine after 6 months of waiting for an engine only to be told by LR that I was negligent & didn't follow the maintenance rules. I have all of the paperwork to prove it & they denied it & would not give me the car back until I paid them in cash & then I got stuck with a $4000.00 rental car bill. My credit sux now, I can't buy a new car! Im stuck, but it does make me feel better to know that Im not alone! So take an extra few minutes to contact NHTSA & FTC, I wrote the atty general in my state, they couldn't help but referred me to the FTC!!! Power in numbers people!! We need HELP!!! As the owner of a 2002 Freelander which I traded in for a 2003 Discovery I can tell everyone to take seriously the ratings given by both JD Power & Associates and Consumer Reports magazine (among others). JD Power & Associates reviewed 38 auto manufacturers and Land Rover placed right at the bottom for the reliability of all their vehicles. Consumer Reports magazine ranks Land Rover vehicles as "much worse than average" for reliability but also displays in graph form how much worse than average Land Rover vehicles actually are. When compared among 48 other midsize SUV's, the Range Rover, LR3 and Range Rover Sport all ranked between -129% to -195% in reliability (a score of zero is perfectly average reliability, with 22 other mid size SUV's scoring above average). Again Land Rover is dead last for reliability. For the premium price paid for these vehicles you can expect Land Rover to only issue recalls when forced to do so by the government and you will spend lots of time, hassle and money on frequent repairs. Be warned! Look very carefully at the data out there in the press, Land Rovers are expensive pieces of junk.
Owners of 2003 Discovery vehicles should check out the Land Rover issued "Technical Alert" at the following link: http://home.comcast.net/~bhcmbailey/lrna_tsb.pdf There is a class action lawsuit being prepared by a lawyer named Michael Wing for 2003 Discovery owners whose VIN ranges appear in the Technical Alert. The contact information for Mr. Wing's lawfirm can be found at http://www.michaelwing.com
