I have just been giving a 1998 Mazda Millenia that is in fairly good condition. The only problem that the car has is that you can not put the car in reverse or park. The previous owner said that you have to leave the car in neutral and apply the parking brake when not driving it. I wondered if anyone could tell me a reason for this and give me a rough estimate on what it should cost to get it fixed. Any information one can offer will be appreciated.

Sounds like the shift interlock is malfunctioning, the shifter cable is bad, or the shifter itself is busted. Price depends on what's busted. Take it to a trusted independant shop or dealer and have it fixed - using just your parking brake is asking for trouble.

Take it to a dealership and have them asses the problem.

Open the hood and on the top of trans is the shift lever, sounds like cable broke.Have someone work the shifter inside the car,and you will see the broken cable or bracket, _________________ |Autopartswarehouse.com Blog|
