Hello, as the subject says, I own a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2L. I live in upstate New York and we are just coming out of winter here.
The last time it snowed, it snowed about an inch or two and when I got into my car I was lazy and in a hurry and instead of clearing my car with a brush I just turned the wipers on full blast.
Ever since then, the wipers have been acting up. They seem to be getting progressively more out of control. It started as working correctly but at the end of the pass, it would go down to where it should rest but then come up a one or two inches and stop there. It does that every time I use the wipers.
The bigger problem is whenever I use the wipers for just one pass, it does the one pass and then keeps going for a good 5 minutes. Meanwhile, I look like an idiot with my wipers running when its sunny out. This morning, they were on for a good 10-15 minutes before they decided to turn off.
So my wipers are out of control and I have no idea what the problem is. I was hoping someone here would know. The only two things I could come up with as possible problems are the fuse and the wiper motor but I have no idea.
Sorry the post is so long but I wanted to be as detailed as possible and thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Adam I live in upstate NY as well and I have a 98' Buick park ave that is having the same problem it started yesterday after I had my engine cleaned. So I researched the problem and I here that from a certain time say 97'-05 GM vehicles does this because of the circuit board you will have to replace it I hear that you can pick them up at any part store and they are easy to install so check it out won't hurt to try believe me I felt the same way driving down the street yesterday with the wipers on I guess I have to drive my wifes car until I go to the part store

On the 2000 Sunfire there is a "pulse Board" That bolts to the wiper motor, that will cause this symptom. Cost is around $25.00 to $30.00 depending on the parts store.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately, it seems none of the parts stores around here carry the circuit or pulse boards for the Sunfire. I guess I will just have to keep looking.
Thanks again.

I am STILL having this problem. Anyone that I have talked to has absolutely no idea what a pulse board for the wipers is. I would really like to get this fixed soon as it has gotten so bad I actually don't use my wipers sometimes when it's raining because of this problem.
Does anyone know where I could take the car for a diagnosis on the wipers that won't cost me an arm and a leg? This is starting to get very frustrating.
