My son's 98 Ford Taurus check engine light came on-2 messages-solenoid and internal transmission prob-but car shifted fine. Check engine light went off-now when car comes to complete stop, engine will rev when you try to drive-but if you shift to neutral and back, car will go. Mostly does this when engine is cold. Changed the fluid and filter, no help.
Any advice appreciated-don't want to rebuild/replace transmission if this is not necessary!!

there is no crystal ball for diagnosing transmissions. if you have a code, you diagnose it first. if you can tell us what the codes are, then you can have more answers.
