I've driven my 1993 Honda Civic for 15 years and love it but am starting to weigh to the cost of repairs against buying a new car.

My initial plan - - if I do buy something new - - was just to get the latest Civic, but I'm curious about the new Corolla. I having a little trouble figuring out on the websites what is standards and what isn't. I'm also disappointed that not all the Corolla models come with manual transmissions.

I'd appreciate any feedback and advice.

Thanks!

Corolla vs Civic, those two cars are indeed close when it comes to competition. They have very minor differences and almost the same prices. Before I also had the same dilemma but my choice always comes down to Toyota because of it cheaper cost in maintenance and better fuel mileage.

hope it helps.

You're likely to get 50/50 on opinions because there are those who are loyal to Toyota and those to Honda.. personally, I purchased a 2005 Corolla LE, 5-speed, and love it. As for new, both are very similar in both size, and power. My brother has a '04 Corolla LE auto, and my parents have a '98 corolla LE auto, obviously we've been Toyota people. I think about what replacement car to get for my parents as it's almost time to retire their '98 and get something new... If it was up to me, I'd get them a Civic LX... I consider it very similar to the corolla, but since they would want to drive an auto, I'd go for the 5-speed Civic over the 4-speed corolla. If it wasn't for the automatic transmission choices, I'd consider it a draw and default to the corolla.

If you want a good selection id try a parts locator. One place that can find you a good short or long block for a Audi transmission is TEXAS Junkyards, Junk Yards in TEXAS TX salvage recycler. They have a link somehow to multiples of thousands of recycling centers and will locate the best one for you.

Just test drove both an 08 Civic and an 09 Corolla today. I have to say the corolla has a better ride in terms of smoothness (not feeling potholes) but it is a little to mushy for my tastes, where the Civic gives you a little more road feel.

The Corolla is quieter in the cabin by far, and the increased wind noise in the Civic is extremely noticeable at highway speeds.

It really comes down to what is important to you: The Civic feels sportier, but the Corolla has some nice features that put it more on par with a higher end car that are not available in the civic. The corolla has twilight sensing headlights, trunk release on the key fob, 60/40 split rear fold down seats, trip computer with real-time mpg display, while the civic has none of these. Some people might consider these things trivial, but it depends on what you want in a car.
