I want to buy a new car but I suck at doing this when it comes to negotiating price and financing so I was just wondering what other people do in order to get the best deal possible.

I'd go to a site like http://www.buyingadvice.com/ where you can get free quotes before you go to the dealer. That's what I did when I was looking to buy my Yukon last year. Seeing the going rate at different dealers before you go to a dealer makes you feel more confident negotiating.
At least it did for me!...hope that helps.

And never purchase an extended warranty from dealer, they often times earn more profit on warranties than they do on selling you the car. Purchase from someone you trust, yourself!
Good luck to all, Mike

You should be self confident when negotiating and don't let the vendor intimidate you

look for other options. sometimes there are better offers out there that you missed because you sticked to one dealer.

If you're in the UK take a look at http://www.broker4cars.co.uk/ another independent broker, takes the hassle out of it as the prices are pre-negotiated

Kyla seems to have hit it on the head, but I don't know that you'll actually have to leave the dealership and wait for a call. If you're looking for a domestic vehicle, this is easy. Simply look up invoice, on the internet, there are a lot of sites that will show you invoice, but be sure to include all the options for the vehicle you want, and if it's a domestic vehicle offer $100 over and for imports, anywhere from $500 to $1000 over.
With the way the car market is right now that should be easy. I highly recommend not buying new right now, because as soon as you drive off the lot you're going to take a huge hit. For instance, a domestic truck right now is worth about half of MSRP. I was just looking at the auction report yesterday and it's crazy how cheap near new trucks are selling for.
If you absolutely must buy new, I'd strongly advise leasing. Of course, that brings on a whole new set of Q&A for you, but in my opinion it's the much smarter way to buy right now.
If you've got any further questions, let me know.
