Hello, I'm new here and have two following questions:

1. Why would anyone put something that looks to me like 80W90 gear/manual transmission oil into an automatic transmission? Would it make a dying tranny run any better? The car runs smooth but don't know what the effect will be in long-term.

2. What'll happen if changed back to the ATF?

accidental or intentional, you change it... you may be liable. as far as operation, it may have been changed to compensate for a flare or slip... this could return when atf is used.
