I have an '87 cherokee inline 6, manual, 4x4 D30 front end. I have a problem with the right and possibly left sides of the drivetrain up front.
Whenever I take left turns/corners semi-quickly the tires feel through the floorboards that they are skipping off the road like ice and then finding traction a fraction of a second later. Just a THUD THUD THUD THUD. Feels like my tires are almost flat and I am driving on the sidewalls but I am not. I have been researching about replacing the hubs or repacking my wheel bearings. I don't know how to check for the state of them. I have grabbed my tires while at rest and the tire doesn't move or is loose on both sides of the jeep.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Alignment is good and the rims are true and straight.

Acts more like bad "u" joints on the front axles. Check them for play or a "frozen" situation. I take it you jacked the front wheels off the ground before you checked the wheels for play.

sounds like it could be the pinion gears (sometimes called spider gears) in the differential, because if it only happens when you turn left, thats the only time that the pinion gears are moving. probably a chipped or worn gear in there.
