I notice My Xterra was leaking Anti Freeze. Every morning there was probably a dollar coin size dropping on the ground under the engine and not near the radiator. The Nissan service advisor indicated to me that it is leaking around the head gaskets. Apparently the heads will need to be sent to a machine shop to be properly sealed or seated or something and new gaskets install. It is a major under taking with an estimated cost of $1875.00. This is my first experience with this kind of problem in all my years of owning vehicles and clearly the largest repair bill I've ever encountered. But to the Xterra's credit it has been flawless in major repairs in my 6 years of ownership.
I would like an experts opinion of this repair as this is not something I can truly say I understand all that is involved. Is it to costly or about right? Should I let it leak and just add anti freeze from time to time or is there other alternatives? Also if I go forward with this repair, what things I need to be aware of beside the obvious that it is no longer leaking and the job was properly done?
Thank you in advance.
