I have a Wrangler 2008 that 2 of my tires continue to deflate from 35lbs to 20lbs when it is extremely cold overnight.  I have brought my vehicle in over 4 times (still under 36,000 miles) and have several stems replaced.  The problem still exists and the dealer is not sure what to do next.  Replacing defective parts with other defective parts is not a solution.  I am also curious on if you can remove the sensor stems and put in plain rubber generic stems and not have it affect the tire pressure light within the vehicle.  Meaning if you move away from the sensor stems to a standard stem will the tire pressure low light stay on all the time?

Even tho I have been a die hard Dodge fan (check out my user name) I am having some of the same issues that everyone else seems to be having. Namely, the valve stems snaping off for no good reason. I STRONGLY feel this could easily be a safety issue. My wife and I purchased a 2005 Town and Country touring model mini van and so far 3 out of the 4 valve stems have snaped off for no good reason. One as recent as last weekend on a trip back from visiting my daughter and her husband on an air force base where he is stationed. And the one before that was when my daughter (the same one we just visited) and my wife where on their way home in Feb of this year and were stuck on the interstate at 9:30 at night. NOT EXACTLEY WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR FROM YOUR WIFE AND DAUGHTER WHEN YOUR 300 MILES AWAY AND CAN'T HELP !! I feel that Chrysler should do soemthing about this. My answer to the last problem was I caught a ride to a tire shop just off base from where our son in law is stationed and the mechanic there said he could resolve this problem quickly. He isntalled a STANDARD TIRE STEM !! THAT COST ME 10 DOLLARS !! The past (2) have cost me a total of over $250.00 to be replaced with an air sensor model!! THATS OUTRAGEIOUS!!!! SO, from now on I will replace them with the good old tried and true rubber valve stems and IGNOR THE INSIDE WARNING SIGN....after all, isn't this what we used to do in the "old days" watch our tire pressure and DIDN'T RELY ON SOME NEW FANGLED TECHNOLOGY TO TELL US WE HAD A LOW TIRE???!!! WORKS FOR ME !! But, you can bet CHRYSLER WILL BE HEARING FROM ME and SOON !!

THIS ISSUE IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE A FACTORY RECALL ON THESE PRESSURE SENSORS!!!!  YESTERDAY I WAS CHECKING TIRE PRESSURES ON MY WIFE'S 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY AND THE VALVE STEM BROKE RIGHT OFF AS I WAS TRYING TO UNSCREW THE VALVE CAP! THE AIR IN THE TIRE WAS IMMEDIATELY DUMPED AND NOW I HAD A DISABLED VEHICLE THAT I COULD NOT FIX! WHAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED? THIS IS A DEADLY SITUATION THAT NEEDS SOME ATTENTION!!!  A TIRE THAT COMPLETELY DEFLATES AT SPEED COULD BE A DEADLY DISASTER.  THIS IS ALSO AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT CAN ONLY BE CORRECTED AT THE DEALER!  RECALL! RECALL! RECALL!

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just said enough today and replaced all valves with the cheapest rubber kind. One of the metal stems chipped off, so it was almost impossible to use the standart inflator nozzles. Second stem cracked while offroading in rock gravel. Third showed severe cracks.

Today (June 2011), the local dealer here in Czech Republic is asking for the part $140 per each wheel, plus labor!!! Sorry, but that's unacceptable.

$1 rubber valve stems win, but the problem with the "Low Tire" message remains...

Twice, when I went to have a tire repaired the stem broke.  The last one the repair people want $90 to repair the whole sensor system.  One place rebuilt the stem for about 30 dollars.  what gives and why isn't there a recall on these cheap metal stems.  This is not the same as having metal caps.  the stems look like they are made of a cheap white metal and carode so the stem won't come out when the tire garage tries to change a tire breaking and costing outrageous amounts to change a tire.

In thte states they refuse to use the Rubber saying it's against the law to go against the OEM equipment.

I have an 09 Dodge Caliber and in the last 2 months I have had to replace 3 of my sensors and it has almost become impossible to find someone who has them in stock.  The last one just happened Friday and I had to wait until today to get it fixed.  This is ridiculous and way too expensive 60-70 bucks for a stupid 3 dollar valve stem.  So, I wrote Dodge about it and I got a sorry for your dissatisfaction and there was nothing they could do, oh and wait I got a sorry for the unfavorable answer to my question.  So pretty much the Dodge company is telling me that they don't care that we are having these problems and just keep spending your hard earned money on stupid parts to keep us in business. I guess it will take several people to get seriously hurt because of them breaking before they will do anything....

I have an 09 Caliber, and I just had my first one snap. Fortunately, they are available through the dealer and some shops like Tire Barn.

On the other hand, I have read about a LOT of people having these problems, and I recently submitted information to a website about a class action lawsuit. Chrysler needs to acknowledge these faulty parts and replace them free of charge. Wish me luck!

RE: Jeep Grand Cheroke
I feel like this is a real scam. Since we got our jeep there has been problems with the Tire pressure sensor light going off. When we went to the dealer at first they said it was nothing not to worry about it and they were not sure why it happens. Now I feel like enough time has expired where if it was covered under warranty it has run out. I took the car in for an oil change and tire rotation today. I was told the pressure system (which they knew nothing about in the past) was gone and I would have to pay 136.00 dollars for a new one.
When I said I couldn't afford it I was told they could put in a regular rubber one for 20 dollars but the light will stay on in the car.

Jeep,
You can keep your tire pressure system which seems to break in all jeeps (my friend has a 2009 Commander and has the same issue). I'll go with the 20 dollar rubber valve.

Weasels!

We have three 08 Jeeps and an 08 Town & Country.  All 4 vehicles have had the dash low tire pressure warning lights lit continuously.  Suburban Chrysler Jeep in Troy, Michigan said it's just because of the outside temperature that makes the warning light illuminate... not to worry.

However, I took our cars to Belle Tire to have the tires rotated and they said, gee you need to see this..  they showed me that ALL four sensors (which I thought were meerly heavy-duty valve stems) were cracked and ready to fall off- actually causing a air leak from the tires AND the warning lights to illuminate.

Now I am going to take the cars back to Suburban Chrysler Jeep in Troy, Michigan and see if they are going to replace these faulty, poorly manufactured sensor valve stems under warranty.  I have learned that this is a very common problem and pretty expensive to replace- about $90 each.  One would think that Chyrsler would have had a recall on these parts by now????   JC - Birmingham, Michigan

a few months ago.. there was some angry valve stem testers in the rear alley... did some late night destructive testing..

the valve stem on this 2010 nissan survived the test...

so.. other brands might be able to be used...  other brands of  valve stem TPMS ..

I have had two tire rapid deflations (normal highway driving) in past 12 months and in both cases the TPMS value was busted. Coincidence or are these valves dangerous?  Either way I'm switching back to rubber valve stems.

there are also various lengths of solid metal stems available..

look a LOT like the TPMS stems..

far superior to anything else...   last decades... when properly installed...

there are legal issues why you may not find shops that will install rubber stems ...

prepare to pay cash without a receipt..

lkluesnerengr:
I have a 2008 Chrysler T & C that is only 16 months old and I had two steams crack after I put air in the tires.  This left me stranded on my vacaction.

Metal is very corroded and it sure appears Chrylser has a major design flaw with this item.

I also have a 2008 T&C and today after putting air in all 4 tires, the front right stem cracked and then blew off all together. Luckily my warning system told me it was low and I had already stopped driving when this happened. I have put air in my tires many times over the years, and I have never seen plastic stems. Pretty pathetic if you ask me...
