Just got my 1994 ZJ 4.0L 4X4 with 42RE transmission(I think) and it has a transmission issue that I think is the Governor Pressure Sensor/Solenoid. The symptoms are that it won't downshift into first gear when I come to a stop(ever, without me putting the shift selector in "1") and sometimes stays in third when I stop. Also, it clunks pretty loudly sometimes when I shift into reverse. Sound like the pressure sensor/solenoid or maybe something else? I have read that you need to get the solenoid/sensor as a pair because the pins will not match up?

Here is the sensor/solenoid pair I am looking at.

(sorry, not allowed to post links )

Would you guys think that I should remove these parts from my trans before ordering to make sure, or will they fit(since they are both labeled as the 1994 part). Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot, Bill.

Have you had any success repairing this problem, I'm having the same type of symptoms. I have picked up a used 42re valve body with all selonoids attached 145.00$ not certain if this will resove the problem. I also noticed there are different versions of the valve body. The pan is now removed and I'm debating what to do, any suggestions?

94 may be a 3 pin gov sensor. if it is, you will need to drop the valve body and change the harness and solenoids. it is an update for a reason. buy the harness (w/4th and tcc solenoids), gov solenoid and gov sensor (transducer) for a 1998 and you will be home free. if you are wrong on the year then you will have other troubles.

i sell used parts, and used is not the way to go when it comes to theses electronics. they are high failure rate components.

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lardedo that had a check engine code of 1762 which indicates faulty Governor Pressure Sensor. I did notice a drop in power when this code appeared. I took it to a transmission shop and they of course wanted to rebuild the transmission because they said the fault probably was caused by metal shavings shorting out the GPS. All symptoms point to replacement of the GPS. It has now gotten to the point that the car will not shift out of first gear becuase it was heading toward 3,000 RPM. Up until the check engine light came on the transmission was performing perfect. No griding, no slipping etc.. Does it seem reasonable to think that replacing the GPS would fix the problem?

Even though it is a 98 the governor pressure sensor, and the governor presser solenoid still controls all the shifts ,Before having a rebuild I would replace the these two solenoids first.

I have a 98 Grand Cherokee that is not shifting out of 1st, if you unhook the battery cable you can get it to start in 2nd then it shifts smooth, but if you turn the car off it resets and when you go to drive it again it will not shift out of 1st again. When it first started you could get it to shift manually, but now you can not, any suggestions?
