hello, I drive a nissan 200sx and have a transmission problem so i thought since you guys are a transmission experts maybe you know what could be wrong. at first this problem occured when the engine was cold but soon i discovered that the transmission fluid was low so i added it to full and now this problem occurs during a hot engine. here is the problem: when i get the car up to speed, lets say 30 mph and come to a light or a stop sign and start slowing down here is what happens as i slow down: 30mph initial speed 20mph rmp fall to 1500 10mph rpm fall to 200-300 stop rpm go back up to 800rpm. the car nearly stalls for 2-3 stops. about a day ago, at 5 mph the rpm would fall to 200-300, then jump back to 800 and then again fall and stall the car. could this indicated a worn out torque converter? or some other problem?
ps. also on a cold engine, the engine wont transmission will not go into 4th gear until about .2 miles is driven.

How do you know this is a trans problem? might not be a trans problem. You should have codes in the PCM,or the TCM ( trans control ) If it is a trans problem, have you pulled the codes? As far as the trans lockup into 4Th there is a TOT(trans oil temp sensor) in the trans that will keep the trans from lockup until a certain temp is met.
