Any info on what this is and how expensive/important it is to fix ro replace? It is OBC code P8045. Thanks.

It depends upon where you buy it from. I got one for my daughters Beetle on ebay and it was quite less then the dealer. Most of the auto parts around here did not carry it for some reason.
It was $85 to install.
