This summer my A/C was working fine, no problems or indications of a problem. Then one day I got in the car, flipped on the air and smoke came through the vents. I quickly turned the blower off. Needless to say the blower no longer works, hot or cold, but I'm not sure if it's just the blower or actually a compressor issue. Any insight? My Volvo is a '93 850 GLT.
Thanks all.

The compressor for the air conditioner is under the hood attached to your engine. Inside the passenger compartment there is the duct work for both the heater and the A/C. In that duct, the only A/C part is the evaporator coil which does not smoke,,,,ever. The smoke came from the blower motor,or the wires to it. or around the variable speed resistor. You need a functioning blower motor to pour heat into the passenger compartment during the winter to keep you warm and also to keep ice off the windows.
