I am looking at buying a ranger pick up, it has a 3 litre engine and a 4 spd auto transmission, the shifter is hard to shift from park and through the gears, what I mean is you have to pull hard like it is binding, the transmission shifts fine while driving but I havnt seen this before...could it only be a linkage in need of a lubricant?

Thank You

It could be a couple of things, The brake/shift solenoid in the steering colum, Or the shift cable , It has  plastic ends on both sides of the cable that have been know to break or crack, when this happens it will bind the shift cable in the sheath.
