Anyone have options for replacing PAX tires on '06 Quest. I bought vehicle new and have 30k miles. Tires need replaced and I have to say I was shocked when my local service center said that I have to go to the Nissan dealer for replacements at $750 per tire. I called the dealership to confirm and sure enough that was the price. The dealership also said that they only keep 1 tire in stock (he said Nissan makes them keep 1 in stock). I wondering if I have any options here - not looking to spend $3,000 plus on tires every 18 months.
Thanks for any input -

Boy! I thought Odyssey touring owners are being robbed, because my Honda dealer in Palo Alto (CA) wants $285 per replacement PAX tire (and $90 to fix a flat). I am in the process of replacing it with regular rim and tire.
$750 is beyond outrageous. It is impossible. Now I don't feel so bad about Honda.

I'm sure you have heard back by now, but I went through this yesterday with my wife's '07 SE. Went to get a repair done due to a nail only to find out that nobody can repair a PAX tire. Spent 5 hours at the dealership where nobody seemed to know what to do with the PAX. Finally, they told me that they can't repair PAX tires and that the only option was to send the entire mounted tire/wheel to Michelin and replace it with a new one for $734+tax. They didn't have one in stock. OR...after asking the question of them...they could replace all of the PAX wheels/tires with the standard system for $550 per wheel and another $125 per tire.
I drove to Discount Tire where I was able to replace all of the PAX system setup for conventional wheels (have to be 17" wheels) and tires P22560R17 for $1600. This included the Michelin Energy LX4 tires, 5 spoke wheels, valves, mounting kit, certificates for future replacement if needed, and replacement sensors for the tire pressure monitoring system. In my mind, it was better to just do this rather than have to deal with the dealership and pay $800 per wheel/tire everytime my wife gets a nail and/or tire needs to be replaced. The PAX system flat out stinks. Nice safety feature, but it can sure get expensive in a hurry.

I also have the same problem and have decided to just go to a local dealer to purhcase a whole new set of rims and tires for about $1500. I will probaly have to go to Nissan to have them disengage the PAX sensor. what a hassle this has been. I complained to the dealer and was very frustrated that Nissan could not do something about these bad tires. I will never buy this system again. WOW what a rip off.

I have 06 Quest with PAX. 24K miles, tires need replacing. NISSAN corporate told me Michelin is responsible, not NISSAN. I called Michelin and they were helpful. PAX has road hazard warranty for 24 months. Will fix at no cost during that time. Treadlife is supposed to be 35-45K miles (ha ha). Michelin said I should take to dealer and they could replace with non-PAX wheels and tires and this would NOT void any warranties on the vehicle (I have heard some say that the replacement voids vehicle warranty - what warranty - NISSAN does not cover the PAX system anyway!). Going to see dealer General Manager in the next day or so. Will let you know how it goes. I plan to stand firm that they replace the wheels and tires with regular type. Fall back position is to accept replacement PAX tires at no cost to me!

Also went through a remendous amount of trouble with pax tire replacement on my wife's 2007 SE. First incident, nail in the tire, had to go to two dealerships, two tire stores, hours on phone, Michelin told me to go to the Honda dealer that had a machine, Honda said they can't do it since its a Nissan warranty...bottom line, Nissan dealer eventually replaced entire assembly. Now second and current incident: have a damaged tire and rim, dealer has no assembly, says they are backordered nationally so no projected fix time. Hours on phone again, complaint onfile now with Nissan Customer Care. I told them I expect NISSAN to replace pax with normal 17" wheels, spare, and jack, and refund the amount they charged me for the pax system. We'll see. Great info on replacing - if these stay on the van for now, they will all be replaced with regular tires when they wear out (soon, according to most folks)! More frustrating is the fact that I (the customer) had to do hours of research to figure out how to get these fixed! Dealer had and has no clue, Michelin pax line not much help either. Happy there was no blowout (and at least it happened near home), but I've had ZERO flats on my conventional-tired vehicles in the last 10 years anyway, and now I might as well put the $35K van up on blocks. Happy with the van but the pax system makes it unusable, reflecting VERY poorly on Nissan overall.

I am going through the same ordeal with Nissan on my '06 Quest. I have almost 30K miles on the vehicle and the tires have had low tread for at least the last 5K miles. I filed a complaint with Nissan Customer Care and they got back to me a week later saying that they cannot do anything for me. I contacted the general manager at my Nissan dealership. So far, they are willing to give me a credit of $366 for each PAX wheel and sell me the conventional wheels at dealer cost of $465 each, plus the cost of each tire. They haven't mentioned if they will provide me a spare tire and jack as of yet.
After further research, I found that as of April 2008, Michelin has announced that they are discontinuing the PAX tires. They will only produce enough to replenish whats already out there. This will further show that these tires will be hard to get and expensive to buy.
I am curious to see what Nissan Customer Care does for you. Please keep us posted.

Yeah Michelin PAX tires are worth like that before. I think its worth above $750 now. So why buy a PAX tires? You can buy other good quality tires out there for only $250 per tire. Thats what I think and do. just my 2 cents.

I'm going through the same problem now as well. I have 11,500 miles on my car and the front tires are completely bald on the outer tread. The salesman told me that I couldn't rotate the PAX tires when I purchased my 2k7 SE and like a moron I didn't verify. Regardless, even without rotation they should last longer than this. I took it to the dealer today and they are blaming me for not rotating at 7500 miles. I kindly stated that my other vehicle is a G35 Sedan that has different sized front and rear summer only tires and they are still in good shape with 18k on them. He said they will not replace due to negligence. They also said that my alignment is fine. The rear tires while having decent tread life left, are feathered heavily on the outer edges suggesting the vehicle is out of alignment. The local Honda dealership wants $350 per tire for replacement. Not too bad considering everyone elses gripes, but I think I am going to go the aftermarket route for the long term return rate.

How are the replacement tires and rims working? I just started looking into this as we are having the same issue. 2006 Quest SE with Pax system, $1500 to replace, told by dealer that car will not be safe if tires and rims are replaced with anything other than Pax. I was also told that if I did change out tires there was no way to stop the blinking light for the tire pressure system. I have read many accounts of people doing this but no replies on how well it is going after a few months. Help?

I have 4 07 Quest SE PAX tires and wheels with sensors. Brand new last August, only 10 months of easy around town driving. Tread almost new. One rim has scratch from wife clipping the curb. Looking to sell all 4 but will separate. Email for pics and more info. I am in Massachusetts.
