Hello,
I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with a manual transmission. A couple days ago it started making a clicking sound but only when I decelerate. When I'm accelerating it does not make any noise at all but when I take my foot off the gas it starts the ticking/clicking sound?? Any Ideas?

Have you checked the universal joints on the drive shaft?? Or is this a front wheel drive?. In that case it could be the CV joints on the axels.

I work at a Tech School that teaches basic Auto (Oil Changes, brakes etc) They put it up on the hoist and said it definetly is coming from the transmission and instructor has NEVER heard this sound before

Maybe its not inside of the transmission itself,,,maybe its coming from the clutch. After all these two things are right together and sound does travel. Just a thought.
