We are looking for a new car (we will be leasing it) with the following criteria:

- about $200 a month
- as little down as possible (even $1000 is ok, but 0 is preferred)

We are looking at kia's because we saw a billboard advertising their low lease rates, but cannot find any more information on them.  We are willing to go with anyone though, depending on the deal.  I don't know if deals are location oriented, but I live in Santa Clarita, California.

Thanks

Beware of those super-cheap leasing deals.  They usually require large down payment.  IF you can find one that doesn't require a down payment, then great.  But make sure you pay attention to the fine print.  Find out how many miles per year you are allowed; usually it's 12K, but if you go over, you get hit with per-mile charges that can add up to thousands.  Also, make sure it's no more than a 3 year lease.  I'm sure some leasing companies still offer 4 and 5 year leases for extremely low rates.  But this is the worst possible situation; you'll pay nearly the entire cost of the car and then have to give it up at the end of the lease with no equity in the car at all.

As for the Kia's.  They're perfectly good cars that offer features and quality very close to that of Honda and Toyota for less money.  Actually, a recent drive in a rented Spectra surprised me.  It was quiet, refined, well made, and even looked smartly styled.

There's really nothing wrong with a larger downpayment, that actually saves you money in the long term, granted that you do have the money to make downpayment.  Anyhow, I would suggest that you look into some of the newer cars that are being imported by Hyundai and like speedracer1407 said, Kia is also pretty good.

Hyundai offers great cars and they are known for packing quite a good package when it comes to the interior.  Suzuki is also a good choice.

Good choice you got there. With Kia, you've got quality and comfort--all for a cheaper price. I've just come across this site: http://www.carleasingsecrets.com/. They offer Kia ... and with good deals. Perhaps you can land a good Kia Rio LX. Very neat. My friend just bought one last month. What with the limited funds that he had that time, he settled for Kia; but it turned out to be better than he expected--good looks, fuel economic, great power, and lots of room.
