What are the differences in 4l60e's which are placed in different vehicles? For example A Chevy blazer 4l60e vs. a Camaro Z28's 4l60e?

______The tranny in my Camaro is in need of a rebuild, I cannot afford a full rebuild but have found 4l60e's around in wrecked 4x4 vehicles.
Thanks-

They have made a lot of changes to the 4L60E since 93,in fact a 97- 4L60E is all by itself, they changed bells ,valvebodies, added solenoids, made changes to the pump ,changed the converters to a 133mm convertor. Most of the changer came between 97 to 2000.Then of course the 4L65E was used in some modles. What year and motor size Camaro do you have?I might be able to narror it down for you as far as the year to look for.If you want to know of all the changes they made the is a site that sells a download of updates and all the changes according to yeay and modle, for the 4l60E, for $25.00.   www.atsg.com

Are you going to install the used trans or use it just for parts?Make sure that Both pumps should have the letters PWM stamped on the front. In some 95 modles they added a pulse with modulater solenoid to the valve body and had to change the design of the pump.Everything should be the same if it has PWM stamped on the pump, just not sure about the "bell" from a v6.in 96 they made a removable "bell"

I am hoping to install a used transmission. I have found a 97 blazer tranny that is only $350 and is supposed to work. Do you know if i could use a 700r4 in my car?

They quit making the 700R4 in 92. it only had 3 solenoids, your has 6 solenoids, so it will not work with your computer, as far as the 97 trans ,it should have a removable bell that is deeper than the 95 for the new 133mm convertor plus it has a different type pwm modulater. You are going to have to stay with a 95 or 96 4l60E.

Thanks alot for the help. I may just have to save up and rebuild mine. I am pretty sure the band is gone because it only has 1st and 3rd in the drive gears. I had it put onto a computer to check the solenoid's and the local Transmission shop said it was sending a signal so the solenoids are working fine. They are quoting me $1800 for a rebuild which is suppose to be better than stock, but I need it to last. Any ideas on add ons which will help out alot in making it last longer?

Hello,
I need some help here too.
I have a 1999 C5 Corvette and the tranny is broken.
I have a friend who offered me his 1993 Chevy Astro Van (V6 4.3) transmission.
Both are 4L60E.
I need to know if it will fit.
Thanks and kind regards

Even though they are both 4L60E transmissions, with all of the changes this trans went through over the years, actually they two different transmissions. No it will not fit or work in your Corvette.

I'm in the same boat-tranny's gone in my `99 Olds Bravada AWD-4L60E.  I already know there's a difference in the 4x4 & the 2 wheel drive transmissions.

Do I need to stick to a `99 GM "something" 4x4 for a used one, or are there any other years I can pirate one from?

I have a 2004 chevy express 1500 van with a 4.3 and 4l60e with the six bolt pattern on tail shaft so later model.its blown drive and 3rd.fluid is black still have 2nd and first.found low miles same look one in a 2000 blazer.it doesnt match on salvage yard comp.but they said ask tranny guy.he said the torque conv might lock up diff what ever  that means.or the bell housing might be diff.I cant afford the rebuild price and its a work van. need to fix to work.what r the diffrences and will they matter much?they both have the six bolts or nuts on tailshaft and the ribs in bellhousing for strength so they look exactly the same(later mdl 4l60E)Thanx

can you get the id number off the side of the case. 1/4 inch above the pan gasket.. probably on the left side..

the 04 transmission id will probably be an 4CAD

if it is... direct interchanges MIGHT be..

please be careful,,, that when you install the transmission.. that the torque converter is PROPERLY seated after you get it on the jack.. before you jack it up toward the back of the engine.. and AGAIN.. before you mate the transmission to the engine... SO much time had been wasted by the converter not being properly spun and seated Onto the splines and the into the front pump...

the front pump is fragile.. if the converter is hanging out..  and you try to install the transmission..  the multi hundred dollar front pump will be broken..
