Hi all, I noticed my pickup leaking some Trans fluid yesterday, Today I drove it about 20 miles and noticed smoke in my rear view mirror. I pulled over and limped another couple miles to a station. There was Trans fluid all over the underside. I had to get a tow home and after looking at the Shop Manual, I notice that the cover for the governor was missing. You can slide the governor assembly out and it looks OK, my question is I guess, is it suppose to come out like that or is something supposed to hold it in place. I see no indication that the end of the governor was rubbing on the cover. Do you think it came out and knocked off the cover? Should I just put another governor cover on, fill it up and see what happens?
Thanks for your replies!

You pulled the governer all the way out ? Did you check the gear? is it ok? Some times they will bind and knock the cover off. if everything looks good just replace the cover and seal, it should be just a flat type 'o" ring style seal.
