I have a 98 Pontiac Sunfire and I am having cooling issues. My car overheats if I am idle but when I start driving...it cools down! My A/C doesn't work but what could be the problem? Also, I am not sure if the Sunfire is supposed to have 1 or 2 cooling fans.

there is another whole thread on this with the answer on this site... i will try to find it..
there is a problem with the radiator cooling fan relay SOCKET... there is NOT enough grip on the relay terminals by the socket connectors..
one can work the end of the female connectors in the socket with a big needle.. mechanics usually have pointy scribes with thinly tapered tips to get behind the what i would call the tongue in the terminal.. this exerts grip on the relay terminal...
without enough grip.. the current won't get through the run the fan at full speed and the engine will over heat...
here is the link

I spent a lot of money, seems its always the simple things. Now i think its running cool, probably because i was used to it running hot! The fan kicks on now as soon as i turn on the ac and the fan kicks on about mid range. Good luck.

its probably relay 20... but check your owners manual...

this is the relay.. i have not found individual components for the socket.. so you will have to use thin pointy tools to probe them carefully to tighten them.... RELAY,FAN CONT ACDelco #15-8733) GM 12193604
