Yet again another first car post. i'm a student and a car enthusiast and in my car searching i came across a few '87 pontiac fiero gt's. I like this cars they look pretty good, there pretty cheap and have some power potential.(northstar v8 hahahah!) But my question is are they reliable (i know there 17 years old)  and are these cars a joke?

I wouldn't touch a Fiero with a very, very long pole.  Originally, the Fiero was a novel concept that was blighted by GM cost-cutting and poor quality control.  Later Fieros with the revised rear suspension and better engine options were more inline with the original concept of affordable performance and mini-Ferrari styling.  But the fact is that Toyota's first generation MR2 was a better car in every way.  I completely sympathize with the conundrum of enthusiasm and limited budget, but unless you have hands-on know-how, you'll be throwing away far more money into maintaining an ancient car that was unreliable to begin with if you get a Fiero.

Buy a Civic or something, and wait just a few more years to satisfy your automotive enthusiasm.
