2001 Nissan Maxima - engine stalling

My wife drives a 2001 Nissan Maxima that recently developed a stalling problem, and the service engine light also just turned on. The car startes up just fine, and runs at idle for about 10 to 15 seconds, then the rmp slowly go down and the car stalls. If I start the engine and give it some gas, it will hold that rmp range as long as I am giving it some gas. But as soom as I take my foot off the gas pedal, the rmp slowly fade, the the engine stalls.

My first thought is that it could be the fuel filter, maybe the fuel pump. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance
Tim

I just did some research on a Nissan Maxima forum, and from some threads there with similar problems. peoeple are saying that the problem is a bad Mass Air Flow meter. Does that sound right?

start your car and unplug your maf sensor, if the the idle smooths out and it doesnt stall you have found your problem.  Its a very common one yes, but might not be the prolem, although, i think it probably is

Here is what I have fixed my Maxima stalling problem.  Since the Service Engine Soon light was not on; therefore, I previously ruled out the ignition coil, MAF,... problem.  I had the ignition coil problem 3-4 years ago, the SES light was on but not this time.  After careful cleaned up MAF several times, changed spark plugs, feul filter, cleaned the throttle body chamber, the stalling problem still existed.  I finally took it to a Nissan Dealer for them to trouble-shoot.  They determined problem with ignition coils.  I had changed only one coil last time, so this time I decided to change the rest of five coils.  These coils are going bad sooner or later.  After changing new coils, the problem seemed gone away as I have been driving for 2 months.
