Full Sized Car - Help! They're Extinct

I'm looking for a full sized CAR but they seem to be extinct.  I'd like to be able to fit 5 AMERICAN adults (not just 2 adults and 2 children) but it seems like the only option is a minivan or a full sized SUV (wake up John Edwards)

While I'm putting together my Christmas list for Santa, I'd also like a full sized car to get at least 25mpg and maybe have a 0-60 in the 7-8 second range to I can get in and out of traffic without a tail wind.

Is there any hope?

btw - I still have a kink in my neck from all the alleged "full sized" cars at the airport car rentals

Full sized cars, as you may know them, may be extinct.  But I know the "old" full size cars as gigantic, inefficient boats that did nothing well except be big.  I'm not sure what "full size" cars you've been driving from rental agencies, but there are a few genuinely full size cars out there.  One is the hideously (or awesomely, depending on your preference) styled Chrysler 300, which is certainly big, and has a great big back seat.  It's actually a stretched previous-generation Mercedes E-class underneith and is available with various engine options up to a very powerful 5.7 Liter V8.

The Toyota Avalon is agenuinely big car.  No, it's not American, but I'm pretty sure it's built in America, and if so, is probably more American than most GM, Ford, or Chrysler cars, as more and more of them are built in Canada and Mexico. Anyway, the Avalon is genuinely big, with a huge "cross-your legs" back seat.  It also happens to have superlalative reliability and an uncommonly powerful V6 that'll put many V8s to shame.

The Ford Taurus, not to be confused with the rental version, is new for 2008, and is actaully, a slightly rengineered version of the Ford 500.  It's classified as a "full size" car by the EPA, and it certainly has lots of legroom everywhere, but i'm not so sure it's as wide as the Avalon.

Believe it or not, the 2008 Honda Accord is and EPA "Full size" car, and from the looks if it, it seems to be a genuinely big car.  It's American-built, and offers very efficient (and surprisingly powerful) 4 cylinder engines, and a V6 that packs a great big wallop.

The GM full size cars, untill the Pontiac G8 and corporate equivalents come to the market, suck, and aren't worth looking at unless you're a die-hard GM fan.

Re you exceptionally tall? Do you have physical issues like sore back? Have I been helpful?

The Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car are the only full-sized cars on the market.  You are correct about a full-sized SUV being your only other alternative.

I have '96 Caprice Classic, so I know what a full-size car is.

The comment "But I know the "old" full size cars as gigantic, inefficient boats that did nothing well except be big. "  is wrong.  There were many
full-size cars of the past that did many things very well.  Some even got better milage than some of today's SUVs.

any updates? Thats a tough find now a days, have you considered a 7 series? a client of mine who I do public relations and marketing work for showed me his the other day. now that baby has leg room. you'll be able to carry 5 full sized adults. it might be a little pricey but there aren't many around these days.

Other than those mentioned above, you can also look out for Buick Lucerne, Hyundai XG, Cadillac Deville, Mercury Montego, Acura RL, Jaguar XJ8, and Dodge Magnum. I've just visited this site, www.carleasingsecrets.com, and found out that they still offer cars that most people think have gone extinct.

I'm buying a new Mercury Grand Marquis.  This is a REAL car (big, rear-wheel drive, front bench seat, V8), not a girly-man not really large car that GM is now trying to push on the public (Buick Lucerne...please go away....Cadillac, bye bye, Chevrolet, what the hell did you do to the Impala and Caprice?, Pontiac...Nothing!!!)

Unless your going to go german and get a benz or a bmw if you have money coming out your ears.
