My power steering pump was replaced twice. The mounting bracket was replaced last time. This time power steering pulley broke. Steering pump is replaced. Now the power steering is very stiff at start or very low speed. It works fine after 5-10 mph. Please help.

1996 Grand Cherokee. Can't help but I have the same problem. Just replaced power steering pump and did the front end in the air turn wheels side to side bleed procedure. Doesn't seem to be any air left in lines but turning at low speeds is nearly impossible. Any ideas out there?

just curious.... did either one of you put additives in your power steering fluid???????
have you both tried flushing your power steering with fresh fluid????/
a 99 cent turkey baster to suction the fluid out... put in fresh... run it a few minutes while working the wheel from limit to limit..... do it again and again... till you go through 3 quarts of fluid... be sure to break the turkey baster when you are done... so there is not any chance of it getting used for food or suctioning brake fluid...
i am worried that some of the additives swell the seals on the pistons wedging them where they stopped at...
it is probably just time for a rebuilt rack and pinion ...
for the people who keep having to replace pulleys??? how are the other pulleys... watch them carefully with the engine at idle... do any of them have a wobble???? at all????? if so., that might do it...

I have the same problem with a 96 jeep. How often is your jeep used? Mine sits a lot after 206000 miles but overall it still runs rather well. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the belt tension but have not tried that. Has anyone tried replacing any electronics (like the engine module)?
