I have a friend with a 2003 Audi A4(Chevy girl myself) and she has broken down twice now with a bad coil. I heard that Audi's are notorious for this. Any ideas why? Its pretty *** aggravating to her. Thanks!

Both motors in the Audi of that year are equipped with a coil-on-plug system, which means the coil & triggering device are one element and a seperate one is mounted on each individual spark plug, eliminating the need for spark plug wires.
If I was working on this car, the first thing I'd check would be the spark plugs. Plugs with worn or carbon-fouled electrodes require more voltage than normal to jump the gap and create the spark - this overworks the coil, causing it to get hot & melt the insulation around the windings, effectively killing it. There are other factors, but checking spark plugs requires the least amount of tools/experience.
Can I ask what kind of shop she takes the vehicle to (chain, dealer, independant)?
