i am new to this forum and i am from shanghai in china ,in our city ,es350 cost us a lot of tax so its price is nearly 530000 rmb ($ 69960).
so we admire people in america, you can get the cheapest cars in the world .i have booked a es350,but gs300 is also great and it cost 630000($ 83160),do you think i should change my mind ?
our city also afford china-made bmw 5 series and 530 is about 670000($ 88400) 525 is about 560000($ 73920).
my last car is honda accord and i feel i pay 2 times the price but i can not get the same worth of enjoyment .
so do you think i should change my mind ,buy a gs or other kinds of cars .
no matter what ,i am a fan of lexus .
i knew in your country these three car are at different levels but in my hometown its price level are so similar
the reason i post here is that i think your market is so fair that you can give me a good choose .so help me please

I think your decision probably boils down to whether you want a use or new car, and what your preferences are.  All three are nice, but are all very different.

The GS is rear-drive, and affords the driver reasonably good handling and a smooth 3 liter inline 6 cylinder engine.  But the 2005 GS is now a somewhat older design, having been originally introduced almost 10 years ago in 1998.  A 2007 ES350 seems like a better choice because , for a similar price, you get a new car.  It's not as sporty, actaully it's not sporty at all.  But the engine is very powerful and the interior is very luxurious.  The BMW is by far the most sporting.  If you like a bit of power, I'd avoid the 525.  I'm not sure if the models are the same in China, but over here, a 525 comes with a 180 (or so) HP 2.5 Liter inline 6, which is just not very powerful for such a heavy car.  The 530 is better, but you may sacrafice a bit of luxury for greater sport.  BMWs may have many features, but they aren't as "warm" and inviting as Lexus'.  So how do you like to drive?  If you like to drive fast around corners, you'll be bored in an ES350.  If you don't care about speed, you'll probably find the Lexus more comfortable.

Plus, Lexus cars are very reliable, and will certainly give you less trouble than a BMW.

i have another question, please help me
why the interior of es is better than gs and details also made better (i like the big skylight)
why es is cheaper than gs?
and my freind just told me es is a higher version of camry
you know in my country es is 3 times price camry?
i want to ask why,in our country, buying a car is too expensive
so i must consider it thoroughly.

I'm not sure whether you assume that the interior of ES is better than the GS because I said so, or because you think so.  Either way, I think the the 2007 ES interior is better than the 2005 GS, but not better than the 2007 GS.  Remember, as I said, the 2005 GS is basically the same car as the 1998 GS.  As a result, the interior was designed 10 years ago, while the 2007 ES has an interior that was designed very recently.  I think the GS interior is very nice, but not as nice as the ES.

Your friend is right about the ES, it's cheaper than the GS because it's basically a luxurious version of the Camry.  But wait, that's not a good reason NOT to buy an ES.  All car makers share mechanical parts among their "cheap" and "expensive" cars.  For example, a 1998-2005 Volkswagen Passat uses the same mechanical parts as an Audi A4 and A6.

So if you sit in and drive a Camry, and then drive an ES, you'll notice a big difference between the two.  They don't look alike, they drive differently, and the Lexus has a much nicer interior.  The fact that the mechanical parts are similar between the Camry and ES simply means that the Lexus can be luxurious and powerful for less money than the GS, which has mechanical parts that are more expensive and unique to the GS.

In the U.S. the Lexus ES350 is more expensive than the Camry as well.  But here, you can get a Camry with leather, the same 3.5 Liter V6 engine, a sunroof (skylight), and many many other luxury features for about $30,000.  A Lexus ES costs around $40,000.  In that case, the Lexus isn't 3 times more expensive.  But you can also get a basic Camry with a 4 cylinder engine, cloth seats, and no other luxury features for about $20,000.  That's half as much as an ES350, so the difference depends on which luxury features and engine options you want.

I have no idea why cars are so expensive in China.  I suspect that part of the reason is the strength of the Yuan is less than the strength of the Dollar and the Yen.  Also, in many countries that have a large gap between the rich and the poor, "luxury" items cost more than they would in a country with a larger middle-class.  I'm not an economist, so I don't know why this is.

Anyway, what do you want in a car?  Everybody wants "good" handling, and "good" acceleration, and some luxury.  But which do you wand MORE than the others?

thank you very much.
i have decided to buy bmw 530li(the l means lentening the car 14cm,only china-made ones have this model)also 525 may be a good choice ,that depends on the conversation between the salesman this week.
if 2005 gs 300s price can let me buy 2007 gs 350,i will choose the latter.
but i am very unhappy about the lexus doing in our market, i think its success in america is owing to its high cost performance, but in china,i can not use a reasonable price to buy an overflow car.sighing.....
why i cant buy the latest car just like the TBC of WOW is still not open to us(a great pc internet game made by blizzard)
for me, i just want to buy a more comfortable car than my last honda accord,i want i can drive more easily and comfortable, that is what i am pursuing.
in our country,we must pay a lot of tax such as 25% comporting tax(to protect enterprise and sacrifice consumers benefits) 10% consuming tax,
8% engine tax(over 3.0liter) buying tax and so on,at last,price doubled
choosing cars is such a great trouble, maybe a quick choose will made me out of this trouble.......
