I just bought a new 2006 Durango. It has less than 3000 miles. When I first start it, the engines races for 3-4 minutes before it settles down. The people at the dealer told me that this is normal and to stop bothering them with the problem. Often when stopped (engine turned off) for a few minutes it will do the same thing although it does not take as long to settle down.
Is this a normal operation for this SUV?

Yes it is normal for that make and year of SUV.I have had some come in that idled even longer than 5 minutes before they settled down on a "cold" start.
