When driving with the cruise control engaged, the slightest incline causes the automatic transmission to downshift significantly causing the RPMs to rev up to 5000 and the vehicle to buck and adjust. This happens on the relatively flat roads of southern NJ.
We took it in to the dealer and the service guy said that he's experienced the same thing. This is the first year that the RAV4 has a new computer controlled cruise control (I think he said the same thing on the 07 Camry). There is nothing the dealer can do because it's something that Toyota needs reprogram and give them some new firmware to download.
Any others having this issue?

I have reported this problem to local Toyota dealer and finally took video images of the tachometer jumping up and down when ascending a hill. That finally convinced the service department that there was a problem. At first Toyota said they would replace the processor. But I received a call today that a new processor would not fix the problem and that Toyota engineers were working on a resolution.
I requested a resolution within a week. The RAV 4 was purchased at the end of March and has 4000 miles on it. I live in mid-Missouri and we have our share of rolling hills but certainly no back-breaking mountains.
A co-worker just purchased a Corolla and indicated that he observed the tach jumping to 5000 rpm on a hill.
I'm losing faith in Toyota.
