Hey everyone. The other day I was driving my 2003 Jetta 1.8T on the highway, and an 06 or 07 GTI comes up and we raced; the GTI took off and left my car in the dust, and it was pathetic. To make a long story short, I'm looking at a GTI from the year 99 to 01 (vr6).Any problems with those years or any helpful buying tips? And most importantly, any suggestions on making it worthy of racing the newer GTIs?
Could I fit a blow off valve on an older GTI, or would it kill the engine? If I remember correctly the car should have a turbo in order to have a blow off valve....and a gti vr6 doesnt have a turbo,.....so thats a bad idea?
Anyhow, thanks for reading this, and if you have any helpful advice, please send it my way!!!! -Maari

You dont have a blow off valve unless you have turbo. It is what relases the pressure from the turbo in the line.

Hey I dont know much about cars but my boyfriend is a machanic and has told me some stuff. I just bought a 01 GTI vr6, its great minus the few wear and tear issues. I would not suggest getting the 1.8 gti because I know that in those years is when they had the most issues with the engine. The VR6 was fine and the main problems with them is electrical wiring but no big problems. I dont know about the turbo or anything but I know you should not get a GTI 1.8T.
