Hi,
Need your take on this.
I was in for a market for a used car. I found a nice lookong honda civic S1 (2D coupe) for $7000. The car had 77000 mimes and was clean and drove Ok.I gave the deposit to the owner and took the car for inspection to the honda dealer.
The Honda service station performed a car buyer's check and found the following problems and the cost required to repair:
Timing Belt $395 Was old but needed to be changed Water Pump $195 needed to be changed at the time of changing the timing belt Cam Seal $69 needed to be changed at the time of changing the timing belt Crank Seal $69 needed to be changed at the time of changing the timing belt Rear Trail Arms (both) $848 was broken and needed to be changed Tires ( 2 tires) $210 would need to be replaced in 6000 miles Wheel Alignment $79 was required Lower Motor Mount $179 was broken and needed to be changed Break Fluid Flush $112 preventive maintenance required Top End Engine clean $112 preventive maintenance required Throttle Body Clean $112 preventive maintenance required
Total $2,350
I asked to reduce the price to $ 6000 but the lady refused and I let go of the car even though I had spent 100 bucks oin the inspection.
So my question is - was my decision to let go of the car right? BTW, the KBB value of the car was a little over $ 8000 and the carfax report was clean and she was asking $7000.
Or do the Honda dealers just try to upsell their service and repairs?
Thanks X
