I'm about to purchase a certified pre-owned Lexus 2003 ES300 with very low mileage (18k)- but I've read that they had transmission problems that year -nothing major, but in some cases continual lurching in the accceleration at low speeds, and there were a lot of complaints by those who purchased new that year and got a pain in the neck with the variable nature of the problem. I haven't heard anything about these cars in the last couple years- any updates on this problem? I need some advice.

I know absolutely nothing of the transmission problems you mention. But Lexus is known for outstanding reliability and excellent dealer network/customer service. Combine that with the fact that you're purchasing Certified pre-owned, and any problems will be dealt with quickly and fully. If I were in your position, I'd have absolutely no second thoughts about buying any lexus for those reasons.
