How do I get to this light bulb for the automatic transmission gear selector in the center console of my 97 Toyota Camry LE 4 cyl?
My Haynes manual describes a different setup and I have no access to a Toyota repair manual. I have the rear console and the face plates for the front and center consoles off. However, I cannot get the gear selection center console up out of the front console panel.
I can't get the front (forward) console cover off, because it interlocks with the adjacent passenger and driver trim panels and I can't locate the fasteners for those. That makes it difficult to get to or even see the sides and bottom of the gear selector plastic box.
I removed the forward screw for the gear selector box and used a screwdriver to loosen all of the tab locks I could find. I can't locate the bulb, which is apparently either inside or underneath the box.
So, I am stuck. Any suggestions, diagrams, or pictures would be appreciated.
Also, if I have to remove the gearshift handle, I see the two screws holding it on. However, I am wondering if anything may fly out or possibly fall down into the console area where I can't retrieve it?
Thanks,
Allen

I have a similiar problem my automatic transmision lights at the gear shifter (in between the seats) doesn't light up and the cruise control does not have a active light indicator that comes on. What process is the best to fix these problems. Also, Allen did you find out how to change that automatic transmission indicator let us know. Thanks Evelyn
