HI,
I have BMW 328i 2007, 17K Miles.
Bought recently... trying to me make myself educated.

RFT tires are not repairable as per BMW dealer. WHAT A BMW dealer bull shiiit....
I recently changed one RFT tire at Mavis shop because it was too bad at the sides.

RFT tires are fairly costly comparing to regular tire, All four tires cost some thing like $1200.
AS per BMW dealership(Rallye BMW 11714), YES, you can change RFT tires with Regular tires.NO Problem. It's ultimately Rubber.

For harder rubber(4 RFT tires) $1200????? WHEN a REGULAR TIRE starts from $50/tire.
does not make any Sense.Do Chinese companies know abt it?????
Because RFT is hard rubber, Car just jumps on bumpy roads...

At Mavis discount shop(they are everywhere, check your local area). I replaced one RFT Continental One tire for $180( including labor , tax),got pretty cheap.
why BMW dealer??
and Mavis did wheel balancing for $80.

As per Mavis, they do repair RFT tire. Ultimately it's f..u.   ck...ing Rubber like any cheap regular tire, Jst RFT is little hard rubber.
Why It does not go in People's head???? It's just Rubber.

Any nail issue ... you always can repair at Mavis for RFT tires,
I am sure, you can do at any local small shop.
There is no difference between RFT & Regular tire as soon as Repairing is concerned.

NOW if I replace all 4 RFT tires with regular tires, I mean get rid of RFT tires, Does TPMS(Tire Pressure Monitoring System) light will stay on all the time???? AS Per Mavis, Answer is NO because TPMS sensor is sticking with RIM & Not with the rubber(RFT OR regular Tire).

As per BMW dealer, YES, Light will be ON, Because Rim & Tire is very tightly coupled... does that BS sound like Marriage & divorce????
But I have to figure out whether it is 's BS or it's TRUE.

Please share your experience with regular tires, I am only interested whether TPMS LIGHT will be on DASH board with regular tire????????

I bought my 2007, 328i new from Dreyer & Reinbold in Indianapolis. After no satisfaction on a windshield crack developing at the edge I have come to thoroughly distrust BMW and the dealer!!! I had my first flat on the RFT (after 30k mi) on a Saturday eve. With no spare I was totally screwed! I came back with a jack and tools, and tried to take off the rim. After breaking a  plastic hammer, I couldn't get the rim off, so I hit it with a 6"x6"x4' log and the damned rim came off. Rusted on to a steel flange it center's on! On Sunday I had a Toyo tire of the same spec's put on the rim. I put the rim back on after putting some grease on the center flange and silicone spraying the inside of the rim. Without the allignment stud getting the bolt holes alligned is an absolute beitch!!! I'm going to change out my RFT's for the regular Toyo's and carry a jack, 17mm lug wrench, plug kit,air pump and a space saver spare. BMW has been grossly neglegent in not providing a spare, removing all chances of your rescuing yourself from a flat. Do they think all BMW owners are a bunch of delicate little pussees, incapable of changing a tire, and have to go whinning to a bunch of pompous asses at BMW to come and rescue them??  There's no BMW dealers in Needmore Indiana or Arryo Seco New Mexico by the way!!! BMW doesnt even give you the option of changing out the RFT's and carrying a spare since there is no wheel well in the trunk for a spare!!!! Thats just willfull maliciousness on their part of design to monopolize and maximize their profits on the RFT rackett!! I think all BMW owners that purchased RFT"S should have a full refund on the tires and a retrofit wheel well placed in the trunk at BMW's expense!!! Needless to say this will be my first and LAST BMW!!!!!!

Does anyone know if there is any active class action against BMW for the 3-series (in my case, 2007 328)? For erratic steering and tires, and also tire wear?

This is much more than a tire issue: it seems BMW is saying the problem lies in the tires, when, in fact, their car has not only gone through tires like tanks of gasoline, and is noisy as hell, but has nearly killed me and my passengers several times. I've owned Audis before assuming the lease on this dangerous, plastic wreck, and had always felt so safe on the road. I'm returning this car--in fear for my life. And I sure as heck don't intend to pay for the 2nd set of terribly worn tires, so I'd like to know if there is a firm acting on this issue--not merely to save me the expense, but to save the LIVES of other BMW drivers (and their unfortunate companions on the road)!

I have to return the car soon, so please reply; after I've returned it, I'll have no legal legs to stand on or advocate from!

Thank you!
Wishing safety to all!

Hi,

I have two BMWs, both purchased new and now I have to replace the RTFs on the one with Bridgestone Potenza tires .  Having read just about all the postings in this Forum since 2007, I realize that the following 3 questions still have not clear cut answers.

1) Can non-RTFs be used to replace the original with  tires of the same size, speed  and weight rating and the same manufacturer (e.g. Bridgestone) onto the original wheels?

2)  If yes, is anyone aware of documented reports from BMW that doing so would absolve them of any legal responsibilities?

3)  Do we have a class action suit filed yet?

If you know answers to any or all of these questions, please  help!  Thanks.

i have a 2009 335xi, the noise has been an issue from day one, today i went to the dealer they recommended i change to continental rft...that would be a cold day in hell i pay 1300 dollars for 4 tires.  so i'll live with the noise and at the end of my lease throw cheap bridgestone rft on and dump the beemer.  its pretty pathetic that my toyota tundra is more quiet that my 50,000 car.  i just hate the fact that i was tossed up between bme, lexus or infinity.  lexus is my next.  get your head out of the sand bmw

I have to agree with you   These run flat tires are horrible.....among other quality issues.  I bought a 128 convertible (sports and premium package) in 2008. Not even a month after purchase, I had the 1st error message that my tires are flat. I went to the dealership and they adjusted the tire pressure as they claimed that the tires are in perfect condition. This issue and other issues (DSC Malfunction a few times, hole in carpet, broken 3rd break light a few times, passenger airbag off, ...)are happening for the past 2 years. Finally, I had to get new rear tires as the dealership refused to replace the tires ...and I no longer have these issues. I am done dealing with the dealership and address my issues now directly to BMW of North America and BMW of Germany as I reached the point of being fed up. I wish I had known about this forum before buying my car

BMW run flat tire should replace all the tires and can not be only two tires are replaced because it could disrupt stability in high speed and to replace it we can do yourself

Tire experts recommend that run-flat tires can have no more than one(1) plug or patch job. Now depending on where the puncture is located on the tire and how large the puncture is, tells whether or not the tire can be fixed.
