BMW run flat tires

Add me to this very long list.  I am trying to get my run-flat tires replaced for a third time on my '06 325XI (I now have only 20,000 miles on the car). I have never had quiet tires on this car.  BMW knows there is a problem with Bridgestone tires but contiues to use them.  Through negotiations, my dealer just agreed to replace two of the four defective tires but I had to pay for one of them.  So much for the "driving experience".  Next time I will buy a Lexus or an Infinity.

I currently have a 2008 BMW 335I with run flat tyres the car has done 10,000 miles I have just been at the BMW garage today who have advised that all four tyres need replacing including one which was only replace about 2-3000 miles ago, they have advised that the tyres have been run under inflated this is not the case as the warning light has never shown at anytime they also advised it could be caused by hitting a pot hole. BMW advised that the car can only be fitted with run flats but from another source I have heard this is not entirely true. The BMW does not cover tyre or wheel alignment and advised it will cost £1,200 for new tyres. I am very disappointed and angry with BMW and would think twice before purchasing another. Has anyone else experienced the same problem with newer models?

Hi
My husband owns a 2007 bmw 335i with run flat tires. Just 2 weeks ago we were cruising on the highway (did not hit any pot holes ) and to our dismay the flat tire sign came on. Immediately we did what the screen said (slow down to 80km or less). Took it to the dealership they said our tire had less than 10lbs of pressure, and usually below 15lbs the tire will most likely have to be replaced. Sure enough the nail went through the side of the tire and we forked up 900$ to replace it. And today I was driving 40 kms behind traffic up hill and the flat tire sign came up again. Since its a saturday and we wont know which tire it is (hoping its the same one so we can give the dealership heck) I was hoping to findout if there are any other Canadians on this post who have similiar problems as they may dis-regard these postings if they are not Canadian based and also if BMW is aware their tires are giving problems to their customers they might not want to admit anything to easily. We are not willing to pay 900$ again for a problem BMW is seeing a lot of.

Thanks
Sonia

I have a BMW X5 2007 with RFT Continental 255-50-19. I drive both off and on road. Driving with RFT in not comfortable but I had to live with it.
However, I noticed that my tires were wearing and chipping and I only drove 6000km!! Took my car to the dealer.
They took photos of the tires and sent it to Germany. Later they told me that they do not know why is this happening??
I went to the dealer several times but they did nothing.
Now I do not want RFT tires but the dealer told me that I can't beacause I will be getting a warning msg on the monitor
every time I start my car and I have to delete this msg every time!!!???
I have been owning a BMW since 1985 and this is my 7th one and it is my biggest dissapointment.
I have the RFT broblem and noise in my rear suspension and the dealer can't do any thing.

I bought my 2006 530xi two years ago. I have a flat tire about every 6 weeks.  I would have to drive on silk in order to not have a damaged tire.  The interesting thing is that the TPMS will alert me if the tire pressure is "slightly" off but if I have a "flat" tire, it does not come on at all.

I drove a 1995 525i for 6 years with just a good set of Michelin tires.  Had a flat tire maybe once every 12-18 months.  Now I have a flat tire every 6 weeks!  I am over it!

Any ideas?

I have a new 335xi.  I have decided that:
1. BMW engineers design for for Germany only so I will buy American next time
2. I live in a cold climate (Western PA) so when I replace my RFT's, I'll replace them with Bridgestones, which are:
    A. Good in the snow (bet of the RFT's)
    B. Made in USA (or at least North America).

The car gets good mileage and persforms well.  But the Cadillac CTS and the Lincoln MKS do pretty well also.  I'll be looking at them and also at Hybrid smaller cars for my second car.

Well here is what is happening to me, my 2008 535i sport package was purchased less then a year ago and I am told by BMW service dept that my tires need to be replaced due to indicator light is on.  I have used only 14,000 miles on my Dunlap run flat tires.  My sales representative states that BMW is not responsible for the tires since they arrived to the car lot with them on. I thought all cars were delivered in that manner. (Sounds crazy) She keeps giving me the run around.  I thought the BMW dealership here in Jacksonville was very prestiges.  Now I am having seconds thoughts with this situation!

Now they are given me an estimate to replace 2 tires for about $1300.  Someone please help with more information.  I am ready for a social action!

I have owned my 645 ci for 3 years and bought it brand new with special 19 inch wheels and RFT. I now have 37K miles and have had 4 flats with 3 wheel replacements. I have owned >30 autos in my life and never had tires and wheels like these. The product is defective. Even if I hit a pot hole (the most common reason given) I should be able to "Run Flat" and not have needed three new wheels ($500 + $500 per set). The service manager has told me that flats with the RFT are legion and knows of one women who had all 4 flat + wheels within 1 week  ------- Twice! I drive my car with respect and expect a luxury car of this caliber to take better care of its customers. Something is wrong with the product and I suspect BMW knows and is not taking responsibility for an outragious product fraud.

I brought a 2009 328I, it is my foruth BMW and last. The BMW company and dealers are not what they used to be. BMW have run flat tires causing rough rides, do not last as long, and are about 150-dollars more expensive per tire then regular tires; sometimes rough idle when air condition is on; the grade of gasoline as to be 93 top tier, and service techs knowledge and ability to fix things. For the price of the BMW car, the car should be more refine. Instead what customers hear from BMW coperate office and dealers are "that is normal for the car or no codes found". The biggest problem appears to be their ratings on car websites are excellent, but when seaching their product on the web, you learn something different from posts; people are happy with the look of the car, but not happy with the machincs of the car nor the support. Next time, I'm saving 20,000 by buying the real ultimate machine.... basic tranportation.

I have experienced flat tires.  The only benefit to that is that you can still drive your car certain miles to get to the nearest BMW or place to get it fixed without damanging rim.  However, replacing the tire is needed, lets be realistic it will go FLAT and they are made out of rubber.  BMW makes it sounds good and we all want speed.  lol!  Anyhow, my car is a 2006 and with only 7k miles on it.  Only drive it 4 miles on the week and from time to time drive long distance but hardly ever.  Now I'm having problems with my tires and I was told that I don't need to rotate my tires. That to me was a signal someone is not being honest at the dealer.  It is true the dealer/BMW does not cover tires. But my tires are barely used and my drive is not as smooth as before.  It's loud and bumpy specially up front.  Can anyone share there thoughts or experiences on similar situations.  Thanks

Hi
I have a an '07 328iT wagon with run flats. I got my first flat from hitting a pot hole, and later talking to a friend with a 550, heard she had hit the same pot hole and got 2 flats. Argh!
Anyway, I drove my car at 65 mph after the warning light came on, and had no noticeable sound or vibration. Your warning light should come on, unless the car wasn't wired for flats. Your problem sounds like an alignment issue, or an unbalanced tire.

I too replaced my run flats on my 06 325i, but now have the problem of no spare and not sure the trunk will hold one.  Can you tell me if you purchased a spare and from where?  Seeking advice from anyone who has purchased a spare after replacing the run flats with regular tires.  The ride certainly is better.  Thanks.

Can anyone tell me where to purchase a spare doughnut tire for a 2006 325i.  Replaced my run flat tires at 27,000 miles with regular tires, now need a spare.  A full spare will not fit in the trunk, hoping a doughnut will.  Any advise would be appreciated.  Thanks.
