George3: if you replace the run flat tires of your car then you have to make changes on the suspention, because the suspension of the car is designed to run on run flat tires!
I have an '08 3281 with sport suspension. I changed over from the run flats to (4) regular Michelin snow tires for the winter. The softer tires are giving me less harshness on irregular surfaces. The handling hasn't suffered noticeably.

I, too purchased a NEW 2006 325i and have already written a $1250 check to the dealership for new run-flats. 4 months later, I had a nail in 1 tire and paid $225 for a new tire. Now, it's been another 4 months and I just noticed a new nail in a different tire. I am sooooo disgusted. I love the ultimate driving machine and have owned 5 BMW's during my lifetime, but the new run-flat market needs to be eliminated, put to rest. I am ready for social action.

We just replaced the Bridgestone Run Flats with Michelin MX4's, and my wife's 2006 325 is just incredibly better. Now you can hear the engine and transmission, and it's a smoother, softer ride - yet still firm.
We went through the same documented nightmare as BMW tried to deny the problem. First we were told it was our fault for not checking tire pressure every week. Then we were told to just leave it all day and they would "do something." It just got worst, and passengers would literally laugh at the car. Whoever is doing PR for BMW should really be canned.
The dealer would not put non-run-flats on, but admitted a lot of their customers were doing so. Sams Club was unable to remove run flats, but we had no problems with NTB. Curiously, NTB said the rear tires were okay, but the front end needed aligning. It was as if BMW is so in denial of the problem that they are blind to other factors.

Yes I purchased a BMW 325 with 2000 miles on it. Gradually the tires got noisier and noisier as they wore down. It got really really loud. I finally replaced all four tires and the noise completely went away and the car drove like a new car. I also experienced a flat tire before I got the new ones. A big red warning light came on when that happened. The car drove ok with the flat tire. I drove it for about 35 miles and got the tire plugged and it lasted until I got them replaced which was a few months later. They say the Bridgestone run flats (which is what I had) tend to wear out quicker. BMW no longer uses them. They replaced my tires with Continentals.

BMW sold me a 2008 328xi with Bridgestone Turenzas on 6/6/08. The car does not have the sports package, just the cold weather and premium. They gave me a chance to get the $800 insurance policy and I passed. Now I am having serious second thoughts. They told me they would hold the paperwork while I thought about it. Should i bring the car back and demand Continentals? Should I buy the policy? Should I put the tires away and swap to go flats? Will my same rims work with go flats?

NYC, 335xi Coupe 2008, 18 inch sports package. 2 mth old and 3 flats already due to potholes.
RFTS suck, but I wonder if these problems pertain to low profile tires in general or if they are specific to RFTs. Have you changed to non-RFT tires? How do they stack up in the NYC test vs. RFTs?
I am thinking of getting the Yokohama Advan S4s all-seaaons.
I hear you man. I am even scared of the manholes covers on the FDR. So stressful.

Bought an '08 328xi. First flat at 6700 miles from a pothole. BMW didn't offer any explanation. I have Bridgestones. Lame. I'm considering going to regular tires and ditching the RFT. Does this void any warranty I have?
Also, has anyone had corrosion problems with their wheels? I got a curb scuff, which also ate a little of the tire, and brought it in to BMW. Of course they wanted to change the tires and wheels for $1800.00. I brought it to an independent and he said I could just re-furb the edge of the wheels, and the tires should be fine cuz it was a minor scuff on them. Of course now if anything happens to those tires, I'm the one replacing those cuz I'm sure BMW will blame a blow out on a scuff! Anyway, the independent noticed the corrosion under the paint of 2 of the wheels. He called BMW on my behalf cuz he knows the service guy. I brought it in, he looked at it, swore they didn't even look like BMW wheels cuz the "shine" on them. I guess they were too shiny. He said they aren't responsible for the corrosion because no one can say what has been done to the wheels since taking ownership of the car and the dealer would have caught ANY defect (gasp) before releasing the car to me. AND since one of the wheels now has a curb scuff, BMW is for sure having nothing to do with me. I asked if he was implying I had re-furbed the wheels and was not coming to BMW trying to get new wheels. He just backpedaled, and swore he would never imply such a thing. I asked where the wheels came from since they are defective, they should track down the culprit. He didn't have any answers. The rep for out region offered my $150 to re-furb the unscuffed wheel. ha. What a joke.
This is my first BMW and probably my last.

I bought my new BMW 328i less than a year ago and recently got my first flat tire. I went back to Russell BMW in Baltimore and was told I should have bought the tire maintenance. I am sure I was not told about the maintenance because who wouldn't buy it knowing a slow leak requires the tire to be replaced. Less than a month later I now have my second slow leak from a nail. I am thinking about replacing the rear two tires with non run flat tires, is that possible? This is my first BMW and not impressed and would not recommend anyone to buy one until this tire issue is resolved to everyones satisfaction.

My BMW 3-series wagon (with sports pkg) is currently at the local dealership with a nail-like puncture --- this is the FOURTH tire replacement in 18 months of ownership...two from nails, two with incredible wear (I flunked my first state inspection). BMW paid for one of the two wear-out-purchases; others have been on my nickel. I HATE the run-flats. We were NOT TOLD of all the problems with them. I've chuckled reading the postings because I, too, cannot believe the noise (on the two that had worn down), the pothole cup-flying bumps, etc. I've seen lots of questions about this but not much in the way of answers ---- if I can be ok without a spare, can I replace the run-flats with regular tires?

If you got a flat, metal object in the tire then you have to buy it or buy a warranty on the tires.
I have put 4 sets of runflat dunlops on my 2004 545. Last week I brought it in for 1 new tire and a plug to fix two flats... BMW has replaced all except the flat last week under warranty. They have balanced everything. But I still have excessive noise and thumping. At one point I had to have the wheels redone to get out "dents" according to the service department. That cost $500. New tire last week $500. Also 2 months ago the car completely shut down at 75mph on a very busy highway with some initial warning lights. The alternator had died and then the battery. Extremely dangerous. I'm looking for a new drive. Looked at the 335i Coupe . Drove great. But they would only budge 2K off of sticker and offered me $23K for a 04 545 which is completely loaded with 34,000 miles. No deal so I'm looking at MB, Porsche, Lexus and Audi. This was my 3rd bimmer (328 convertible, 745, and the 545). Also looked into extending warranty and service plan. They tried to sell that i was 2 days out of being able to extend the warranty and the service plan so i'd have to pay a premium to get the service plan only. not great customer service.

Three months after I purchased my 2006 325i I had to replace the runflat and Bridgestone did not repair run flats. After the 2nd flat they said they do repair them.. how convenient. I've had a total of 5 flats since I've owned the car. The Bridgestone run flats are noisy and when I went for my maintenance I was told I had to replace my tires. I already have 35k but had to drive with the annoying excessive noise. I've complained to my dealership about the tire noise and they said I wore out the tread and this was at 15K!! I'm very upset but if any of you are interested there is a law office that has filed a class action suit against BMW because of this problem. Google it and let them know the problems you are having. I'm very disappointed in BMW!!! Shame on them!!!!

Was planning on a trade in until I came across the no spare tire issue. My 2003 330xi has sports package run flat tires - and on three occassions over 5 yrs I had had to replace my run flats with the spare. (The run flats got me a couple miles to safety without ruining the car but I would have needed a tow on those three occassions if I didn't have the spare to get me to my destination.) Maybe there is a newer version of RFTs but I am not ready to trust. A can of flat fix would not have helped the damage to the tires that I have experienced in the past.
