Before the original S40 (and Mitsubishi Carisma) came along the S80 mk1 was a seriously understated but classy looking 3 box saloon which looked like it belonged in the executive class. Like Lancia Volvo decided that its smallest car then in the range (S40) should look like a scaled down version of the S80 and thanks to the work of Peter Horbury, the Volvo range before Ford ownership started to look bold and imaginative against the block 850 led style from Volvo's past efforts.

The trouble is whilst Volvo have talked about not replacing the S60, the latest S80 doesn't look executive to me at all. I'm wondering why Volvo bothered to badge the S80 at all when clearly the 2 box design is a curved-out version of the old S60 and the latest V70 estate is simply a box grafted version of the latest S80. For years Volvo have been rumoured to be producing an S100 executive saloon, so where is it?

As for individual design, well the more I see of new ranges popping up by Ford Europe, the less I begin to think Volvo has a clear design identity; the new 2008 model year Mondeo estate looks like a Volvo design... Thoughts please!  

IMHO, the redesigned S80 is superb in terms of its safety system and driving stability. this 2nd generation S80 has also added comfort on its features, as compared to the previous version which was narrower and smaller.

volvofank, from your name seems to me that your a volvo fan!   i am too.  i have been browsing on the net for quite sometime about the volvo cars and i bumped to this blog: The Volvo Blog it has inspired me to make a volvo blog too, though its still under construction.

i saw the new silver volvo c30 T5 (227 hp) and it really looks cool... great exterior and interior as well.. but not quit sure if performance-wise c30 t could keep up...
