After doing so, I noticed some damage to the shield under the front bumper and a pair of hoses/cables now dangling behind the shield. The have metal connectors and they look like they attach to each other, and then to somewhere else. They seem to be coming from the fan, or the grill area in general. Need help. Have pictures.

Sounds like the lines running to and from the air conditioning condensor were knocked out of their positioning clips. Simply pop them back in or plastic cable them to a convenient spot.

I've had some problems in the past with the AC, power steering, etc. The AC seized and shredded a belt. So my local mechanic decided to omit the AC unit on the cable and just made the power steering work. So since you say these are AC cables, would it be ok to just tie them off somewhere, or do I have to reconnect them.

Sorry about the AC problem. Compressor units are expensive, though they rarely go out. It may just be a bad AC clutch. At any rate, use plastic, nonmetallic ties on convenient spots on the frame or plastic shielding. Keep them away from hot spots, such as the radiator, engine block, starter, oil pan, etc.
