I've been having all the same problems as everyone else. Stalling in park, eventually turned into stalling at red lights. I replaced my bank 2 o2 sensor, fuel pump, my starter went, and also my alternator. After all that, my car was sluggish. No power, couldn't rev pass 3500. After reading most of the post, I decided I was gonna replace the MAFS, until I saw a post that said I didnt have to replace it, instead just remove and clean it. I'm happy to say that my Maxima runs like it did when I first bought it. Hope this helps somebody else like it helped me. Thanx to everyone for all the great info!

My Nissan was purchased brand new in 03, but after 11yrs and 73000 miles it's starting to ping. In addition, my gas is being eaten literally within days as oppose to a week. Do you think replacing the MAF would solve the problem?

The warm up problem was also from the MAF? I have been searching for the cause on my wife's car. It always says multiple misfires but all coils check good at the cold setting. I suspected a resistive problem since it was temperature related but will try cleaning the MAF . I have been doing that periodically due to the use on a KN filter.

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima GLE. My battery is not holding a charge. It's like the alternator is not charging the battery. I took it to Nissan Dealership and they told me I needed a new alternator, I replaced it (but not threw them, cost too much) and the problem is still the same. Reading the thread I may have the same problem as all of you MAFS and also update my car's computer (ECM). Also, while driving when I get to 40mph it jerks like I have a manual and didn't which gears. When I get to 75 mph it will not let me go past that to 80 its stalls at 75mph. I can floor it and it still will not move. could all this be tied to MAFS? If this is not the solution for my problem please let me know. Thanx

Can someone tell me where the MAFS is located and how to clean it so I can do it myself?

As everyone else has stated, Im WAS having Maxima('96) problems that noone could figure out. Hopefully I just put an end to my problems. Ive been readin posts for about 8 months on how and what I should do. Ive checked and changed everything from the fuel pump to the maf. So I did my own test to see: if I raised the idle up by tightening the throttle cable a little bit would that stop the stalling. To my surprise, it DID just that. And even stopped the hard shift from 1st to 2nd. I drove the car steadily for about six hours ocassionally turning on the a/c from time to time to see if it would stall. Not one time. All I did was have someone put the car in D while I adjusted the throttle cable raising the RPM to just above 500. (650) I hope this will help someone other than me.

it's not hard to replace the mass air sensor yourself. but,you do have to take it to a nissan dealer to have the idle computer reprogramed,or it won't idle properly. what ever you do,don,t let anyone try to adjust the idle screws. they come preset from the factory.

it is on the right side of the motor. just behind the battery. don't know much about the cleaning part.

Have you checked the Transmission Speed Sensor.? I had very similiar problems with my 2000 Maxima. Finally, the check engine light came on and the dealer was able to catch a code on the diagnostic machine.

My car was running fine yesterday, but today, it wouldn't start. It turns over, but doesn't catch. Can anyone offer any advice on where to start looking?
