I am a satified owner of a 2003 Sport Trac, however I was not aware of any problems with towing until I attemped to rent a U Haul trailer, and was informed my the U Haul company, that they did not rent to owners of Sport Tracs due to a problem with vehicle control during towing, Does anyone have any information on this problem or any information to assist me, at this point the truck has become a liability if I can't use it to tow a trailer.

I to had the problem with I tried to rent a U-haul with my 2003 Sport Trac.  It's not the Sport Trac part >> it's the Explorer part.  I looked deeper and the inside story is; Someone back in the mid to late 90's rented a trailer and hooked it up to their Explorer.  (Standard SUV)  They got into a wreck and someone ended up paralized or dead.  They sued U-Haul and won a lot of money.  U-Haul set the policy no more Ford Explorer trucks!!!  I have a 12' x 6' inclosed trailer.  I've hauled 2 quads, motorcyles and probably up to 2500lbs of stuff with no problems.  Of corse I'm not an idiot and drive accordingly when you have a trailer.

I just bought a 2003 Sport Trac, very clean but 128,000 miles.  It's the 4.0 6cyl auto XLT.  Mechanical inspection was good. I paid about $7,000.00.  I'm used to getting over 200,000 miles on my SUV's.  Jeep, Exporer and a Durango. Very little towing, light off road mainly in city.  What do you think?  What will I need to look out for?
