Nissan Sentra - Electrial Problems

Hi

THE CAR
- 1992 Nissan Sentra
- 1.6L engine
- standard transmission.

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM
- car will start up
- alternator seems to charge the battery (it has 12.3V with engine off)
- battery checked out as good by auto shop
- All fuses and fusible links are okay
- list of electrical components that do not work when ignition switch is set to ACC, On & Start: instrument panel lights, headlights, tailights, brake lights, turn signals, clock and windshield wipers.

MY QUESTIONS
1) The car manual says voltage on battery with car running should be about 14-15 volts. When I measure voltage with car running, it ranges between 10 to 19 volts with no electrical components turned on.  Is this normal and if not, what could be the cause?

2) The diodes in my alternator were replaced in Dec. 2006 because they went bad. Could the alternator be the cause of my current electrical problem?

3) Any suggestions on components I should test or things to look for?

I think that alternator is bad. With a good battery and nothing drawing current it should not range like that. A steady 13.5 volts or higher would be about right. Why not pull it and let the auto parts store test it?

check the voltags right out of the alt. running should be 14 or better. also switch your DVOM and check for AC voltage, if theres more than 150mv of AC voltage replace it, everything you mentioned is controlled by the multi-function switch(only dimmer circuit for clock) id start there, make sure you have batt. voltags going in , then coming back out after the switch is turned on, also make sure all circuits have a good ground

Here's an update, in the event someone may experience the same problem. I figured out what the problem was a few months ago. The "pigtail" connected to my positive battery terminal had corroded parts. After replacing the pigtail and a small wire connecting to it, the car worked fine. Apparently, the alternator wasn't able to recharge the battery because of the corroded parts. The car was trying to run just on the battery by itself.
