I have a 1992 ford Ranger 3.0 with A4LD automatic tranny that broke down on me. I got it rebuilt but they put servos for a 4.0 in it and said it would work fine. My problem is now it hesitates then slams into reverse. Also when cold it revs to high rpm before shifting into second. I can manually shift it perfect. My question is will the servos for a 4.0 engine cause this? Or what could be the cause of this? Please help thank you.

The 4.0 servos are just fine, It`s the rest of the trans that need`s attention, First ... Does it shift late into second gear or bypass it and go right to third ? a Low or no Vacume problem will cause a late shift
but rev. should not DELAY one bit with this problem . But it will bang Take Her back rossmed ....

Hey thanks for the reply. It hasn't ever skipped a gear it just shifts late and hard into second. It shifts at the right revs after that it just shifts a little hard with a mild lunge. when shifting from park to reverse it delays for about 2 sec then go hard into reverse. when the weather is cold it shifts into second at high rpm. when the weather is warm it shifts into second ok. If you are in drive it will shift normally into reverse. thanks for your help.

Check your Vacume Reading With a Gauage you should have about 19 in ,and also inspect for Transmission fluid in your vacume line going to to your Vacume Modulator...
