2000 Silverado 4.3L/4L60E reg cab, 2wd, 145k miles since new. Going down the road eatin' a tuna fish sandwich at 40mph. Without warning tranny felt like it popped into neutral. While lookin for a place to pull over, started shifting gears to see what was available. Rolled into a parking lot, and found that reverse was the only gear working. (which allowed me to pull into a parking space and call for a tow) None of the forward gear selections work at all, it's as if the tranny was in neutral. About two weeks prior, the trans started making a buzzing noise, when it was cold, like when the engine belt tensioner pulley, or alternator pulley bearing starts to go out. At the same time, 1st to 2nd shifting only, got very firm (like a shift kit). The noise & the shifting annomoly would go away as soon as operating temps came up. This would only happen on occasion, and not every time. When I got home, pulled out the laptop to scan and see what codes might have been set, even though there were no lights. There were no codes. Up to this point, this tranny has always functioned well since it was new, with not so much as a seep. Does anyone have an idea (that's "inside the ballpark") as to what the problem might be?

None at all, it doesn't matter where the gear selector is positioned. Even tried the tow button, in the different gears for S & G's. The only gear which the tranny will respond to is reverse.
