ramblinwreck The filter is the Problem But Unfortunately not the cause,
See , the filter get`s blocked with Debris , then in turn, creates Low oil Volume to all and everything in your transmission Creating Havic to You... The Driver , But the problem stems from the Clutch Material Flaking off the Clutches .. So like i said The Filter can be replaced ... By Removing the Tran`s , But , What the *** your half way their , Fix the Problem and you,ll be done . Yep It`s Rebuild time ...........

rotcoddam22 It sounds like your 3rd clutck pack is shot , But in one of your postings you wrote (3rd when prompted by manualy sending signal from ecm} did you ground the solonoid to acheive 3rd. gear ? I,m unsure ? Did the unit work in the 94 truck ?

Hi Hog Rider,
I have a 96 Blazer that won't shift out of first until I let off the gas. It then shifts into third. Second and fourth are gone. When it downshifts from third, it goes into first.
The fluid smells fine. I drove it that way for a couple of days, when it finally threw a code of P1870. Any clue as to the problem? Is this major, or maybe a solenoid?
Thanks

rotcoddam22 ... Someone wired your truck wrong ! Think about it ... It work`s when you manully ground it but it dont when you drive ! But it Still should throw a code if the wires are wrong, Research the newlly installed shifter wires

BlazinBoy Bad news The Band inside the unit has failed . This band controlles 2nd. and 4th. gears ! 1870 is a Internal slip code , You can swap the A and B solonoids if you would like to try but I,m sure you,ll find you have waisted your time.

Thanks for the fast reply, even though it's not what I wanted to hear. Any thought on having it rebuilt vs. a reman? How expensive is fixing it vs a reman?

BlazinBoy Depends on what part of the country your in , Here on the East coast a Rebuild could range $700 to $1800 where a reman will have a set price around $1200 salave yard about $300
